Section for tenants: whether dwelling is tied to job, amount paid out in rental, whether household pays rates, responsibility for repair and decoration, a record of improvements carried out to property in last year, plus reasons (if landlord carried out these improvements, whether this action was at the insistence of the tenant), whether there are any outstanding repairs and the landlord's reaction.
Section for owner/occupiers: whether property is leasehold or freehold, whether owner lived in house as a tenant before buying it, means of house purchase (i.e. outright or mortgage), perceived advantages and disadvantages of house ownership, reasons for decision to buy, a record of improvements to property in last year, knowledge of improvement grant schemes and use made of such schemes, purchase price of house.
Data includes general information on: length of residency in present house, previous place of residence and type of tenure, amenities, amount previously paid out in rent etc., arrangements made when considering removal (i.e. application for a council house, enquiries about house purchase etc.), how respondent obtained present accommodation, a record of the choice offered at the time, reason for removal, whether preference is for previous or present house, whether respondent expects to move in the next twelve months (if so, why), whether he would consider moving to a house which cost more to live in, attitude towards present house (i.e. satisfied/dissatisfied - 5 point scale), whether any member of the household owns other houses.
