The study is about Germany’s economic development during the inter-war period. This time span is not understood as a rigid boundary, because a useful analysis of this period is only possible by involving it in a longer term perspective of economic development throughout the 20th century. Therefore, first, the main aspects of Germany’s economic and social development for the 20th century are described before discussing the specific problems of the Weimar Republic and the National Socialism in a central part of this study.
