Abstract

The aim of the project is to systematize the protection of civilians in refugee camps on the basis of refugee law, humanitarian law and human rights. An important part of this protection is the lawful separation of armed elements to maintain the civilian character and security in refugee camps. Hence, identification of armed elements in refugee camp is a part of this research project. To assess whether the purpose of international regulations is achieved there is conducted empirical research in the form of semi-structured interviews with IDPs in northern Uganda where there has been experienced militarization of the camps.
