The information is useful for governments and others who requires knowledge of people's media and cultural habits.

Abstract

This data set is taken from the "Mass Media Survey 2017", which was conducted by Statistics Norway (SSB). Since 1967, Statistics Norway has conducted sample surveys on the use of mass media. Since 1991, Statistics Norway has conducted quarterly surveys annually with a cross-section selection of persons between 9 and 79 years. The purpose of the survey is to provide an overall presentation of Norwegians' use of various types of mass media and the availability of such media. The results are published annually in the Norwegian Media Barometer (www.ssb.no/medie). The media use survey will measure Norwegians' use of different mass media over a whole year, and the data capture is therefore carried out quarterly throughout the year, with four equal sub-committees per quarter. Most of the interviews were conducted during the first three weeks of March, June, September and December. The interviews are distributed on all weekdays in order to provide a picture of seasonal variations in media use. For the survey in 2017, a sample of 3247 people aged between 9 and 79 was drawn. A good 57 per cent of the gross sample responded to the survey. The main reason for apostasy was that one could not get in touch with people in the sample, then that people did not want to participate. There are younger people, especially the age group 25-44 and people with low or no education who are difficult to get into the survey. In Statistics Norway's media surveys, the interview is daily. That is, one asks the participants about their media behavior one particular day of the week. In order to get a good picture of the media use, it is important to get an even distribution of interviews on the different weekdays, something you managed in 2017.
