Sampling procedure

Decisive for inclusion in the sample was the date of introduction in a steady parsonage. The data set contains pastors who in 1850 were already quite old, but also pastors who in 1914 had just taken office. This covers a time interval going beyond the epoch between 1850 and 1914. The years of birth of the pastors contained in the data set range from 1756 to 1886. Evaluation of archive materials: above all the Westpfalian pastor book of Friedrich-Wilhelm Bauks published in 1980 which contains in standardized form short biographies of the pastor of this region from the Reformation to 1945.
