Abstract

On behalf of the Press and Information Office of the Federal Government, the opinion research institute Kantar conducted a short survey in March 2022 on the attitudes of the German population towards migration and integration. The focus is on attitudes towards refugee issues and the work of the Federal Government in this area. The trend questions continue the cumulative ´Questions on the refugee situation in Germany´ from 2016 (ZA6628), 2017 (ZA6634), 2018 (ZA6716), 2019 (ZA6726) and 2020 (ZA7656).
Concerns about there being so many refugees in Germany (Split A), concerns about the current numbers of refugees in Germany (Split B); short-term and long-term forecast regarding the advantages or disadvantages for Germany of taking in refugees; management of the refugee situation on the part of the Federal Government (tends to make progress vs. rather not progressing; assessment of the cooperation of the EU member states in dealing with the refugee situation; Germany´s commitment with regard to the refugee situation in Europe compared to the other European states; Germany´s preferred future commitment with regard to the refugee situation in Europe; Germany´s ability to take in even more refugees from Ukraine; opinion on German financial aid for refugee care in other EU countries; assessment of an EU residence permit without asylum procedure for refugees from Ukraine; personal commitment to refugees (donating money, making donations in kind, taking in refugees oneself, supporting refugee homes in the vicinity, supporting refugees directly, e.g. childcare, language lessons). Demography: sex; age; education; employment status; household size; number of persons in the household aged 14 and over; party preference; voter eligibility; net household income; survey by mobile or landline. Additonally coded was: current respondent number; weighting factor; interview date; city size (BIK regions); federal state; survey area west/ east.

Sampling procedure

Probability: Multistage
Probability sample: Multi-stage random sample; Combined landline and mobile phone sample (dual frame approach (80% landline, 20% mobile) within the framework of a multi-topic survey (EMNIDbus). The telephone numbers of the fixed-network sample were generated by the "Random Last Two Digits - RL(2)DV method" following the so-called Gabler/Häder method. Within the households, the persons to be interviewed were systematically selected by random key. The mobile phone sample was drawn in the same way, but here the regional stratification was omitted, since no regional information on the number trunks is available from the ADM mobile phone sample. Since mobile phones are almost exclusively used by one person, the systematic target person selection was also omitted for the mobile phone sample.
