The purpose of this survey was to collect data in order to assess the custom of Eastleigh Carrefour and the effects of its opening on patterns of shopping in the area and on existing shopping centres. (The Archive holds only data from the household survey.)

Use of shopping centres (frequency, type of centre, expenditure in different centres and weekly expenditure on food. Mode of transport, timing of visits, whether accompanied). Respondents were asked to agree/disagree with a number of statements about several shopping centres and shopping in general. Use of mobile services in the area.
Background Variables
For all members of the household: age, sex, marital status, employment status, occupation, type of dwelling, length of residence, consumer durables, car licence, access to vehicle/motor-bike or bicycle.
