Abstract

The Norwegian election research program was started in the mid-50s by the Institute for social research with Henry Valen and Stein Rokkan as research managers. The election research program collaborated with Norsk Gallup Institutt A/S on the collection of election data from the parliamentary elections in 1957, 1965, 1969 and 1973. The program has collaborated with Statistics Norway since 1977 in the implementation of the election surveys in connection with parliamentary elections. The surveys are meant to provide statistical background material for research on elections and political processes in Norway. Professor Henry Valen has been central in coordinating the surveys throughout the period. From 1985, Bernt Aardal took over as general manager of the election research project. This is a panel based on the surveys in 1997 and 2001, and contains the 871 persons who answered both surveys. Refer to the individual surveys for more information.
