Abstract

The Public Perceptions of Climate Change across Four European Countries: United Kingdom, France, Germany and Norway, 2016 survey data gives insight into public perceptions of climate change and support for related policies and energy sources across Germany, France, Norway and the UK. All data was collected by the research company Ipsos Mori who was chosen through an EU-wide tendering process.

The survey was designed in English by the research team in collaboration with an expert advisory panel. Before piloting the survey questions, the research team and Ipsos Mori went through a thorough translation process to ensure the comparability of the survey data across countries. The English items and answer scales were translated into German, French and Norwegian by two independent native speakers (per language). The translations were then reviewed, changed where necessary and checked again by native speakers. A pilot was run with a longer version of the EPCC survey in May 2016 (see technical report for more details on sampling methods). Based on the pilot data and the feedback from the pilot interviewers, the survey was reviewed again under consideration of to the clarity of the questions, length of the survey and comparability of the data across countries. The data from the pilot can be made available upon request. The main fieldwork of the final survey commenced in June 2016.
