Abstract
The project will qualitatively examine the impact of the Gender Recognition Act (GRA, 2004) on the formation and the experiences of individual and collective transgender identities. The research will examine the significance of gender recognition for those who seek it and those who do not, and will explore how multiple variables impact upon understandings and experiences of gender recognition. This is important as transgender is an arena in which questions of gender, sexual, intimate and embodied identity and citizenship are being debated, contested and reconfigured in contemporary society.
