Questions covered satisfaction with life in Britain today, including attitudes to various branches of government, neighbourhood, housing, employment situation, income, health and other services, education, transport. Scales were constructed to form some of the main variables used. All questions have at some stage been used as single item variables in addition to the constructed variables. The variables all describe some aspect of opinion on government or the circumstances of respondents. The scales summarize opinion over a group of items and relate to optimism/pessimism, opinion on government involvement, personal involvement, opinion on institutional assumptions of the system.
