This was a survey of walkers on the West Highland Way undertaken in 1981. The data were last updated in 1984.
The survey sought information on the following: size and composition of party;
date and duration of walk; points where walkers joined and left the Way; location and number of overnight stays; whether planned walk was completed and reasons for not completing; types of transport used to travel to the Way; types of accommodation used and any difficulties in finding accommodation; other visits and activities undertaken on the holiday; equipment carried; difficulties encountered on the walk.
Opinions were sought on: accommodation; adequacy of waymarking; usefulness and accuracy of guides used; attractiveness of features and countryside; access to the attraction; walking conditions and the challenge.
