Abstract

The Norwegian election research program started in the middle of the 1950's, initiated by the Institute of Social Research. Henry Valen and Stein Rokkan were responsible for the research. In the 4 first surveys of 1957, 1965, 1969 and 1973, the data collection was conducted in collaboration with the Norwegian Gallup Institute. From 1977 and onwards, the program has collaborated with Statistics Norway to conduct the election studies together with the parliamentary election (Stortingsvalg). The survey is intended to give a statistical basis for research on election and political prosesses in Norway. Professor Henry Valen has been the central coordinator for the survey. From 1985 and onwards, Bernt Aardal took over as daily manager of the project. The survey in 1965 was the second survey that was conducted within the research program.
