Abstract

The current study is divided roughly in five topic areas: political-social experiences and orientations; youth and becoming adult as a phase in life in the framework of the course of life; courses of development and development risks; life styles, cultures and social reference groups of young people and the social-structural differentiating of the youth phase. Topics: changes through the turning point; political alienation; moral orientations; orientation pattern of structuring life; time and future orientation; development transformations and pace of development; events in one´s life; stress as a child and in adolescence; use of cigarettes and use of alcohol; deviant behavior and delinquency; self-effectiveness; depressive symptoms; friendships; cliques; time budget and use of time; leisure activities; clothing styles; film preferences; technical interests; games as a child; media usage; religiousness; youth orientation; affinity with youth cultural groups; attitude to school; transfer of cultural capital; parental child-raising attitude; support by parents (these topics present a selection).

1. Wave 1991: the starting point of the youth longitudinal is the study "Youth '92" (ZA No. 2323). An over-sample was chosen with the characteristics region (state), size of municipality class, age (13-15 years, 16-18 years, 19-21 years, 22-24 years, 25-29 years), school degree (achieved or sought: elementary school, first public examination in secondary school, high school graduation), sex. In the youth longitudinal the age group of 13 to 19-year-olds was further interviewed. 1992: survey of mother and father as well as a household form that optionally could be filled out by one or both parents together. 2. Wave 1993: survey of the subsample young people and parents. 3. Wave 1995/1996: survey of the subsample young people and parents.
