The aims of this study were to assess the relative demand for various options on content and dissemination of the 1991 Census among academics.
The survey was conducted as part of a consultation exercise initiated by the Census Offices about the 1991 Census. To co-ordinate the views of academics, the ESRC set up a working party on the 1991 Census which conducted this survey, and eventually reported back to the Census Offices.
A similar survey, for the 2001 Census, was conducted in 1997 by Professor Philip Rees : the data from this study are held at the Data Archive under SN:3950.
