In this context, the issue of social cohesion is becoming increasingly important. A sense of social cohesion promotes peaceful coexistence in diversity and supports democratic processes based on shared values. Previous research on social cohesion has primarily considered social cohesion as a latent macro-phenomenon. Only recently has there been some research into the extent to which it is also a micro- and meso-level phenomenon, and ultimately a complex multi-level phenomenon. This project consists of a pilot survey on subjective perceptions of social cohesion. The perception of social cohesion is measured in a manifest way. In the context of an 'omnibus' multi-topic survey conducted by DemoSCOPE, the following question was asked: 'In general, how do you assess social cohesion in Switzerland today? In your opinion, is social cohesion today...' (1) very bad, (2) bad, (3) rather bad, (4) neither bad nor good, (5) rather good, (6) good or (7) very good. In addition, the following retrospective question was asked: "Thinking back to your youth, what was social cohesion like in Switzerland when you were young? In your opinion, was social cohesion then..." (same response categories). The background to the project is a corresponding research initiative on "Social Cohesion in Switzerland (SOCOS)" at the University of Lucerne (www.socialcohesion.ch).Demokratische Gesellschaften sind von innen durch schnellen sozialen Wandel und multiple Krisen und von aussen durch eine zunehmend autoritär geprägte Weltordnung unter Druck geraten. In diesem Kontext gewinnt die Frage des gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalts an Bedeutung. Ein Optimum an gesellschaftlichem Zusammenhalt fördert das friedliche Zusammenleben in Vielfalt und stützt demokratische Prozesse auf gemeinsame Werte. Die bisherige Forschung zu gesellschaftlichem Zusammenhalt betrachtete Zusammenhalt vornehmlich als ein latentes Makrophänomen. Erst seit neustem wird vereinzelt danach gefragt, inwiefern es sich dabei auch um ein Phänomen der Mikro- und Mesoebene, als schlussendlich um ein komplexes Mehrebenen-Phänomen handelt. Das vorliegende Projekt ist eine Pilotbefragung zur subjektiven Wahrnehmung von gesellschaftlichem Zusammenhalt. Die Wahrnehmung des gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalts wird manifest vermessen. Im Rahmen einer «Omnibus» Mehrthemen-Befragung von DemoSCOPE wurde einerseits gefragt: «Ganz allgemein, wie beurteilen Sie den gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalt in der Schweiz heute? Ist der gesellschaftliche Zusammenhalt Ihrer Meinung nach heute…» (1) sehr schlecht, (2) schlecht, (3) eher schlecht, (4) weder schlecht noch gut, (5) eher gut, (6) gut, oder (7) sehr gut bewerten. Zudem wurde retrospektiv gefragt: «Wenn Sie zurückdenken an Ihre Jugendzeit: Wie war der gesellschaftliche Zusammenhalt in der Schweiz in Ihrer Jugendzeit? War der gesellschaftliche Zusammenhalt Ihrer Meinung nach damals … » (selbe Antwortkategorien). Hintergrund des Projekts ist eine entsprechende Forschungsinitiative zu "Gesellschaftlichem Zusammenhalt in der Schweiz (SOCOS)" an der Universität Luzern (www.socialcohesion.ch).
