Data was collected in various ways, using several different techniques, including interviews, assessments, objectives tests and self-reports. Data included sample members' previous educational, health and work records, personal and social circumstances at the time of attendance; medical condition (physical and psychiatric) at the start of courses; formal assessments of intelligence, motivation, workshop performance and psychosocial attributes such as confidence, anxiety, self-esteem and adjustment to disability; details of courses followed and course decision making. A series of follow-up interviews was conducted one year after courses were completed.
