      <abstract xml:lang="en">&lt;P&gt;Abstract copyright UK Data Service and data collection copyright owner.&lt;/P&gt;</abstract><abstract xml:lang="en">The purpose of this study was to provide information on the prestige ratings of occupations open to Africans in Southern Rhodesia in 1961. The respondents were the secondary level scholars at eight educational institutions.&lt;br&gt;</abstract><abstract xml:lang="en">&lt;B&gt;Main Topics&lt;/B&gt;:&lt;BR&gt;</abstract><abstract xml:lang="en">Attitudinal/Behavioural Questions&lt;br&gt; The respondents were required to rate each of 56 occupations on a five point scale ranging from 'Very high respect' to 'Very low respect'. Open-ended questions asked for occupations which in the opinion of the respondent commanded more or less respect than any on the list. These data were not coded. Additional open-ended questions asked for the occupational aspirations of the respondent and the features lending respect to occupations. These questions were coded.&lt;br&gt; Background Variables&lt;br&gt; Age, gender, educational standard, ethnic group, religious denomination, father's occupation, father's education, mother's education, and years lived in town.</abstract>
