Ziel dieser Erhebungen ist die Ermittlung von Trends und Tendenzen in Bezug auf: das allgemeine Sicherheits- und Bedrohungsempfinden, das Vertrauen in Institutionen und Behörden, den Grad an aussen- und sicherheitspolitischer Kooperationsbereitschaft, die Neutralität allgemein und verschiedene Auffassungen von Neutralität, die Einstellung zur militärischen Landesverteidigung, das sicherheitspolitische Interesse. Neben einem Kern von stets oder in unregelmässigen Abständen gestellten Fragen werden jährlich auch solche zu aktuellen sicherheitspolitischen Themen gestellt. 2010 waren dies: Zustimmung zu sicherheits- und verteidigungspolitischen Zielen, allgemeine Einstellung zu den Auslandeinsätzen und zum Umfang des Engagements, der Schweizer Armee im Bereich der Friedensförderung, Prestige und Wahrnehmung der militärischen Kaderausbildung, allgemeine Einstellung zum Zivildienst, Akzeptanz militärischer Traditionen.Since 1989, the Military Sociology Lectureship of the Military Academy at ETH Zurich and the Center for Security Studies of ETH Zurich have regularly carried out the representative surveys "Security" on the perception of national security issues in the broadest sense.
