The surveys were of farmers and other resource controllers (Farmers interview), persons domiciled in or near two of the study tracts (Household interview) and users of the study sites (Site survey). The study tracts were in North Wales, the Peak-Pennine area, the East Midlands and Dorset.<br> The principal topics covered included access to cultivated and uncultivated countryside; access to water for recreation; management of the countryside for access; user group conflicts and the representation of interests.
