Tutkimus on osa EU-rahoitteista RURALIZATION-hanketta, jossa tarkastellaan eurooppalaisten maaseutualueiden avautumista ja uudistumista erityisesti nuorten työmahdollisuuksien ja maatilojen näkökulmasta sekä analysoidaan maaseutuun liittyviä trendejä ja nuorten unelmia. Aluksi kyselyssä tiedusteltiin missä vastaajat haluaisivat asua sekä millaisessa paikassa tai missä maassa he näkevät unelmatulevaisuutensa. Tämän jälkeen kysyttiin, mistä vastaajat toivovat saavansa toimeentulonsa sekä mikä olisi heidän unelmien ammatti. Lisäksi oltiin kiinnostuneita siitä, minkä vastaajat näkevät itselleen riittäväksi elintasoksi. Seuraavaksi kysyttiin tarkemmin, missä ja millaisessa paikassa vastaajat haluaisivat asua. Lisäksi tiedusteltiin toiveista naapuruston ja talon suhteen sekä siitä, millaiset asiat vastaajille ovat tärkeitä asuinpaikan suhteen, kuten miljöö, palvelutarjonta sekä sijainti. Edelleen kysyttiin vastaajien näkemyksistä unelmien elämäntavoista, kuten siitä, miten he eläisivät ja millaisia merkityksellisiä asioita elämään sisältyisi. Lisäksi pyydettiin kuvailemaan elämään sisältyviä tärkeimpiä asioita, kuten esimerkiksi harrastuksia ja ihmissuhteita. Tämän jälkeen pyydettiin pohtimaan merkittävimpiä esteitä, jotka mahdollisesti estävät unelmien toteutumisen. Esteitä pyydettiin arvioimaan muun muassa taloudellisen tilanteen, palveluiden, työllistymisen sekä oman osaamisen näkökulmista. Loppuun tiedusteltiin vielä olisiko vastaajat vastanneet eri tavalla ennen koronaviruspandemiaa sekä pyydettiin arvioimaan kuinka paljon, koronaviruspandemia on vaikuttanut kyselyn vastauksiin. Taustamuuttujia ovat muun muassa vastaajan asuinmaa, asuinpaikkakunnan tyyppi, ikä, sukupuoli, työllisyystilanne, perhetilanne, tieto onko lapsia sekä koulutustaso.The survey explored the future dreams of young people aged 18-30 and legally resident in the EU. The study is part of the EU-funded RURALIZATION project, which examines the opening up and regeneration of rural areas in Europe, particularly in terms of job opportunities and farms for young people, and analyses rural trends and young people's dreams. First, the survey asked respondents where they would like to live and where or in what country they see their dream future. This was followed with questions about what they hoped to do for a living and what their dream job would be. Respondents were also asked what they saw as a sufficient standard of living for themselves. The next questions asked respondents where and in what kind of place they would like to live. They were also asked about their preferences in terms of neighbourhood and house, and about the things that were important to them in relation to their place of residence, such as the environment, services and location. Respondents were also asked about their views on their dream lifestyle, such as how they would live and what meaningful things they would include in their life. They were also asked to describe the most important things in their lives, such as hobbies and relationships. Then the respondents were asked to reflect on the main obstacles that might prevent their dreams from becoming reality. These obstacles were assessed in terms of their financial situation, services, employment and skills, among others. Finally, respondents were asked whether they would have answered differently before the COVID-19 pandemic and were asked to assess how much the pandemic had affected their responses to the survey.
