All adult education centres that are members of a state association of the German Volkshochschul-Verbandes are required to report data. The Adult Education Statistics (VHS-Statistics) are thus designed as a complete enumeration. Primary data from the surveys are available as scientific-use files for research purposes from the 1987 reporting year onwards. The reference period of the surveys is a calendar year (1.1. to 31.12. of the reporting year). Data are available on the structure of provision, on financing and on institutional aspects of German adult education centres. The data sets currently provided represent the first two reporting years after an extensive revision process - 2018 and 2019. They are based on data reports from the adult education centres, which are usually submitted via an online reporting form. The DIE ensures the quality of the data through plausibility checks. A formal application to the DIE is a prerequisite for using the data.Die Statistik der deutschen Volkshochschulen wird vom Deutschen Institut für Erwachsenenbildung (DIE), Leibniz-Zentrum für Lebenslanges Lernen e.V. seit 1962 jährlich erstellt. Alle Volkshochschulen, die Mitglied in einem Landesverband des Deutschen Volkshochschul-Verbandes sind, sind zur Datenmeldung aufgefordert. Damit ist die Volkshochschul-Statistik (VHS-Statistik) als Vollerhebung angelegt. Primärdaten der Erhebungen stehen als Scientific-Use-File für Forschungszwecke ab dem Berichtsjahr 1987 zur Verfügung. Bezugszeitraum der Erhebungen ist ein Kalenderjahr (1.1. bis 31.12. des Berichtsjahres). Es liegen Daten vor zur Angebotsstruktur, zur Finanzierung und zu institutionellen Aspekten von Volkshochschulen. Die aktuell bereitgestellten Datensätze betreffen die ersten beiden Berichtsjahre nach einem umfangreichen Revisionsprozess – 2018 und 2019. Grundlage sind Datenmeldungen der Volkshochschulen, die i.d.R. über ein Online-Meldeformular übermittelt werden. Das DIE sichert die Qualität der Daten durch Plausibilisierungsverfahren. Eine förmliche Beantragung beim DIE ist Voraussetzung zur Nutzung der Daten.
