The questionnaire was distributed in March, 1984, through the school authorities of Esbo, and this was practically done by the teachers of civics and history in the class rooms, a procedure which secured a rapid gathering of the 1 504 filled in questionnaires. Pupils that were ill or absent for other reasons were not included, and no attempts were made to make them participate at a later time. Question 52 in the questionnaire provides a hint about the extent of absence from school for the sample as a whole. Socially the sample is skewed.
