Aineisto on osa laajaa 1983 aloitettua tutkimussarjaa. Vastaajien erilaisia energia-asioita koskevia käsityksiä, kannanottoja, mielipiteitä, uskomuksia, arvostuksia, asenteita ja tietoja kartoitettiin esittämällä useita energian tuotantoon liittyviä väitteitä. Vastaajilta kysyttiin myös mihin suuntaan Suomen sähköntuotantoa tulisi kehittää ja miten tärkeinä he pitävät erilaisia energian tuotantoon liittyviä tekijöitä kuten hintaa, saasteettomuutta ja tuotantovarmuutta. Lisäksi tiedusteltiin, kumpi olisi parempi vaihtoehto, ydinvoima vai kivihiili, oletetun uuden voimalan energialähteeksi. Taustamuuttujina ovat mm. sukupuoli, ikä, asuinpaikkakunnan koko, lääni, koulutus ja poliittinen suuntautuneisuus.The survey charted Finnish attitudes to energy production and energy strategy. The data are part of an extensive survey series launched in 1983. Respondents' conceptions, opinions, beliefs, assessments, attitudes and knowledge about various energy issues were studied by presenting several statements relating to energy production. Respondents were asked in what direction electric power production should be developed in Finland. In addition, different energy sources (e.g. natural gas, wood energy, hydroelectric power) were evaluated in terms of production reliability, environmental friendliness, costs, and degree of risk. Respondents were also asked which would be a better alternative as the energy source of a new hypothetical power plant: nuclear energy or coal. Background variables included respondents' sex, age, region of residence, basic and vocational education, occupational group, political party preference and number of inhabitants in respondents' municipality of residence.
