      <abstract xml:lang="en">The Vorlesemonitor is an annual educational study that examines reading behaviour in German families with children aged one to eight. Since 2022, DIE ZEIT, Stiftung Lesen and Deutsche Bahn Stiftung have been conducting this study with a new design based on an annually comparable catalogue of questions. The study, which surveys over 800 parents, provides important insights into current reading aloud practices in families, enables comparisons to be made with previous years, analyses reading aloud biographies and risk factors as well as the influence of the availability of analogue and digital reading material. The Vorlesemonitor emphasises the importance of regular reading aloud for children´s development. Children who are read to frequently benefit from a larger vocabulary, easier learning to read, greater empathy and better school grades in various subjects. This study, conducted as part of the nationwide Read Aloud Day, provides important data for education policy and reading promotion in Germany.</abstract><abstract xml:lang="de">Der Vorlesemonitor ist eine jährliche Bildungsstudie, die das Vorleseverhalten in deutschen Familien mit Kindern im Alter von ein bis acht Jahren untersucht. Seit 2022 führen DIE ZEIT, Stiftung Lesen und Deutsche Bahn Stiftung diese Studie mit einem neuen Design durch, das auf einem jährlich vergleichbaren Fragenkatalog basiert. Die Studie, die über 800 Eltern befragt, liefert wichtige Erkenntnisse über die aktuelle Vorlesepraxis in Familien, ermöglicht Vergleiche zu früheren Jahren, analysiert Vorlesebiografien und Risikofaktoren sowie den Einfluss der Verfügbarkeit von analogem und digitalem Vorlesestoff. Der Vorlesemonitor betont die Bedeutung des regelmäßigen Vorlesens für die kindliche Entwicklung. Kinder, denen häufig vorgelesen wird, profitieren von einem größeren Wortschatz, leichterem Lesenlernen, höherer Empathie und besseren Schulnoten in verschiedenen Fächern. Diese Studie, die im Rahmen des Bundesweiten Vorlesetags durchgeführt wird, liefert wichtige Daten für Bildungspolitik und Leseförderung in Deutschland.</abstract>
