      <abstract xml:lang="en">&lt;P&gt;Abstract copyright UK Data Service and data collection copyright owner.&lt;/P&gt;</abstract><abstract xml:lang="en">The research project looked at whether jobs that were prone to accidents (and therefore put workers at greater risk of being physically hurt) offered higher wages as compensation. This hypothesis was tested using a wages equation. If economic theory is correct, it would be expected that jobs which are more prone to accident would indeed offer a higher wage.</abstract><abstract xml:lang="en">&lt;B&gt;Main Topics&lt;/B&gt;:&lt;BR&gt;</abstract><abstract xml:lang="en">The dataset consists of a selection of variables taken from Wave 1 of the British Household Panel Survey (BHPS). Additional variables were derived from these BHPS variables. In addition, three variables created from data from the Winter quarters of the 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997 Quarterly Labour Force Surveys (QLFS - see SNs 3221, 3442, 3559, 3718 and 3829) are also included. The aggregated data are contained in .csv format files, 'jobrisk1.csv', 'jobrisk2.csv' and 'jobrisk3.csv', and were used to create the variables 'riskmain', 'riskminm' and 'riskmajm' in the main dataset.</abstract>
