Since June 2000, they have to be asked quarterly for the EU and the Office for Statistics “EUROSTAT”. The field “care-service – housekeeping – childcare” had already been the topic of several Mikrozensus special survey (1969, 1977, 1983 and 1995). The comparison of this survey with those from the previous years shows changes in the behaviour of the partners concerning housekeeping and childcare and how much this change is the result of the increasing employment of women outside the household. Adequate institutional childcare which allows women to accommodate childcare and employment has been of public interest for the last years. An important aspect is the question of to what extent care and education is transferred from the family to public institutions.
