The primary purpose of the survey is to provide greater insight into variations in productivity across businesses, and whether management practices play a role in these variations. The MPS was created to gather data on management practices in British manufacturing firms and allow for analysis against productivity data obtained using linked data from the <i>Annual Business Survey</i> (ABS, UK Data Archive SN 7451).<br> <br> <i>Linking to other business studies</i><br> These data contain Inter-Departmental Business Register (IDBR) reference numbers. These are anonymous but unique reference numbers assigned to business organisations. Their inclusion allows researchers to combine different business survey sources together. Researchers may consider applying for other business data to assist their research.<br> <br><B>Main Topics</B>:<BR>The MPS microdata include the following variables:<ul><li>responses to eight management practice criteria</li><li>management scores based on the above eight criteria</li><li>Standard Industrial Classification codes</li><li>employment</li><li>turnover</li><li>firm birth date</li><li>legal status</li><li>immediate and ultimate owner's country</li></ul> Great Britain Institutions/organisationsNational Businesses with employment of ten or more, within manufacturing industries in section C (divisions 10 to 33) of the 2007 Standard Industry Classification Numeric Cross-sectional (one-time) study One-stage stratified or systematic random sample Telephone interviewPostal surveyData also linked in from ABS and IDBR <p>The Data Collection is available to users registered with the UK Data Service.</p><p>Commercial use is not permitted.</p><p>Use of the data requires approval from the data owner or their nominee.
