To generate the new data, a consistent functional coding scheme was applied to the basic raw 'atomic' data from the General Expenditure Statistics (GES) team at HM Treasury. The procedures used are described fully in the documentation for this dataset.<br> <br> Further information about the research is available on the <a href=http://www.degreesofdemocracy.mcgill.ca/>Degrees of Democracy</a> project web site.<B>Main Topics</B>:<BR>The dataset includes new data for each expenditure function covered from 1980-2000. The rows in the data file designate functions and the columns years. All spending figures are in current Pounds Sterling.<br> <br> For Culture, Media and Sport (CS) and Social Security (SS) two sets of numbers are provided:<br> <li>the numbers that resulted from the application of the four-stage process, and<br> <li>'revised' numbers that were the result of the adjustments outlined in the study documentation.</li> United Kingdom Administrative units (geographical/political)National The data cover government expenditure for the UK from 1980-2000 for a number of items.
