<P>Abstract copyright UK Data Service and data collection copyright owner.</P>The <i>Quarterly Survey of Financial Assets and Liabilities</i> (FALS) collects information on the financial assets and liabilities held by companies, with the exception of financial institutions. (Financial Institutions are organisations such as banks and building societies and these provide data directly to the Bank of England). The data are mainly used in constructing the financial accounts for the non-financial corporations’ sector of the UK National Accounts and as an input into the compilation of the capital account of the UK Balance of Payments (the difference between imports and exports).<br><br><span style="font-style: italic;">Latest edition information</span><br>For the fourth edition (September 2022), quarter 1 data for 2022 have been added to the study. <br><br><B>Main Topics</B>:<BR>The survey collects information about:<br> <br> UK financial assets:<ul><li>London certificates of deposit</li><li>certificates of deposit issued by building societies</li><li>sterling treasury bills</li><li>UK government securities (Gilts) </li><li>commercial paper issued by UK companies</li><li>ordinary shares issued by UK companies</li><li>preference shares issued by UK companies</li><li>medium term notes issued by UK companies</li><li>other securities issued by UK companies</li></ul>Overseas financial assets:<ul><li>current and deposit accounts with banks overseas</li><li>commercial paper and certificates of deposit issued by overseas residents</li><li>ordinary shares issued by overseas residents</li><li>other securities issued by overseas residents</li></ul>Financial liabilities:<ul><li>advances and loans from banks overseas</li></ul>

<p>The Data Collection is available to users registered with the UK Data Service.</p><p>Commercial use is not permitted.</p><p>Use of the data requires approval from the data owner or their nominee. Registered users must apply for access via a DEA Research Project Application.</p><p>Registered users must complete the Safe Researcher Training course and gain <a href="https://uksa.statisticsauthority.gov.uk/digitaleconomyact-research-statistics/better-useofdata-for-research-information-for-researchers/" target="_blank">DEA Accredited Researcher Status</a>.</p><p>Registered users must be based in the UK when accessing data.</p><p>The Data Collection must be accessed via a secure connection method in a safe environment approved by the UK Data Service.</p>
