      <abstract xml:lang="en">&lt;P&gt;Abstract copyright UK Data Service and data collection copyright owner.&lt;/P&gt;</abstract><abstract xml:lang="en">The purpose of this survey was to investigate the post-training careers of trainees during the two and a half years to three years immediately following their course at Government Training Centres, and to determine the extent to which trainees remained in their training trade over a period of time, and the effects of this on factors such as prejudice against GTC trainees on the part of employers, trade unions, and workmates.</abstract><abstract xml:lang="en">&lt;B&gt;Main Topics&lt;/B&gt;:&lt;BR&gt;</abstract><abstract xml:lang="en">Attitudinal/Behavioural Questions&lt;br&gt; Pre-GTC employment history and status, attitudes towards this experience. Method of approach to GTC, reasons for coming to GTC, family's attitude to GTC training. Choice of trades and GTCs, freedom of choice and compulsion involved in choice. Method of selection for GTC and attitude towards method experienced, waiting period required before coming to GTC. Reactions to courses taken. Living arrangements, domestic circumstances, income source and level during GTC period. Experience of obtaining a job after leaving GTC (whether knew beforehand, if not, how obtained). Post-training careers, number and types of jobs, rates of pay, working hours. Reasons for taking and leaving jobs, how jobs obtained. Trade union membership and experience of trade union acceptance/rejection. Job satisfaction. Attitude to GTC and willingness to recommend others to attend GTC.&lt;br&gt; Background Variables&lt;br&gt; Sex, age, educational level, final marks on course, whether disabled, trade, marital status, place of birth and parents' place of birth, housing type and tenure.</abstract>
