It was first presented as part of a workshop entitled 'Introducing multilevel models and applying them to the Health Survey for England using MLwiN'. The HSE teaching dataset is available in both Stata and MLwIN formats and is accompanied by a practical guide that includes the multilevel modelling practical exercises. A separate document provides information on the teaching dataset and materials. The main dataset is an edited version of the Health Survey for England (HSE) data from 2003, 2004 and 2005 (the full HSEs are at the UK Data Archive under SNs 5098, 5439 and 5675). Details of the recoding of HSE variables for the teaching dataset and how the aggregate data were produced can be found in the documentation. WARNING – Users should note that this dataset is intended as a learning resource and should not be used for research purposes. In particular the dataset uses adult measures of Body Mass Index (BMI) for children and so the results from the data should not be reported in research contexts. England IndividualsNational The original HSE covered adults (aged 16 and over) and children (aged 10-15 years) living in private households in England during 2003-2005. Numeric Cross-sectional (one-time) studyThe main HSE is a repeated cross-sectional series, conducted annually. This study includes variables from the HSE between 2003 and 2005. See documentation for details. Compilation or synthesis of existing materialThe original HSE was conducted using Face-to-face interview; Self-completion; Clinical measurements and Physical measurements. The Data Collection is available to UK Data Service registered users subject to the <a href="https://ukdataservice.ac.uk/app/uploads/cd137-enduserlicence.pdf" target="_blank">End User Licence Agreement</a>.Commercial use of the data requires approval from the data owner or their nominee.
